Alice Jo Criss, 89, of Lebanon passed away on Saturday, Nov. 25, 2017, at her daughter's home in Frankfort. She was born on June 12, 1928 in Shelburn, a daughter of the late Newman and Nora Ellen (Carroll) Guy.
Raised in Sullivan County, Indiana, Alice graduated from Shelburn High School in 1946.
On Oct. 16, 1948 she was married to Alvie Lloyd "Bud" Criss in Sullivan. He passed away on Feb. 19, 1991.
Following their marriage, Alice and Bud moved to Terre Haute and then to Indianapolis. During the mid-1950s, they moved to Boone County and had resided there since. Alice was a dedicated homemaker and for a period of time worked as a clerk at Eli Lilly and Fort Harrison in Indianapolis. She was an active auxiliary member of the Eagles Club, VFW and Moose, all of Lebanon and a former member of the Bethesda Baptist Church in Brownsburg.
Alice was extremely devoted to her family and involved with her children's activities including Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, and making sure 4-H projects were completed. The family enjoyed many camping trips together. Alice loved to read and crochet. She had a passion for caring for children and was a foster parent for many years and when her grandchildren came along, she was head over heels. During retirement, Alice was fortunate to enjoy many trips with her husband and then many train trips after his passing.
Survivors include two children, Catherine J. "Cathy" Henry of Frankfort and Gordon W. Criss of Lebanon; daughters-in-law Kathie Criss of Lebanon, Pam Beck of Mechanicsburg and Kristin Criss of Pittsboro; four grandchildren, Holly Criss, Ryan Chastain, Blake (Emily) Criss and Kyle Beck; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Alice was preceded in death by two sons, Paul David Criss and William L. Criss; two brothers, Newman Guy and William Guy; three sisters, Etta Mitchell, Virginia Guy and Clara Neumann; and a son-in-law, Arlen Henry.
Funeral Services are planned for 5 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 30, 2017, at Myers Mortuary, 1502 North Lebanon St., in Lebanon. Visitation will be held from 3-5 p.m. at the funeral home in Lebanon. Interment will take place at Little Flock Cemetery in Shelburn, Indiana, on Friday, Dec. 1, 2017.
