Anna's Story

Anna Mae Powell, 104, passed away peacefully at Homewood Health Campus, Thursday evening, Nov. 23, 2017. She was born in Clinton County in southern Illinois, on Sept. 9, 1913, a daughter of the late John Carl Peter Potthoff and Anna Justina (Gerling) Potthoff.
Raised and educated in southern Illinois, Anna Mae was a 1931 graduate of Centralia High School.
On Aug. 11, 1932, she was married to Rev. C. Kenneth Powell in Beaucoup, Illinois. Rev. Powell passed away Oct. 24, 2006. They had celebrated 74 loving years together.
Anna Mae was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. She was a laboratory certified church school teacher, teaching grades K-6 and training teachers for both church school and vacation church school. She was also active in United Methodist Women.
Survivors include two children, Charlotte I. Olson and husband, Don of Sun City, Arizona, and Gary D. Powell and wife, Peggy of Lebanon, daughter-in-law, Margaret Sharon Powell of Lebanon; eight grandchildren, Douglas Olson and wife, Celeste of Omaha, Mark Olson of Leavenworth, Kansas, Eric Olson and wife, Alice of Lake in the Hills, Illinois, Darin K. Powell and wife, Sherrie of Plaza, North Dakota, Kristin D. Steimel and husband, Shane of Lebanon, Alissa L. Herbon and husband, David of Zionsville, Kara J. Powell of St. Louis and Dana J. Powell of Fenton, Missouri; 20 great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren, along with several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Anna Mae was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth Duane Powell; brother, Frederick "Bud" Potthoff; and two sisters, Arlene Potthoff and one in infancy.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 2, 2017, at Centenary United Methodist Church, 910 Fordice Road, in Lebanon. Visitation is planned from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday at the church in Lebanon. Interment will follow services at Hopewell Cemetery in Boone County.
