With family beside her, Barbara Ellen (Johnson) Eavey, 73, died on Dec. 3, 2017 in Yuma, Ariz.
She was born Oct. 13, 1944 in Anna, Ill. to Carl and Lucille (Poole) Johnson. She was one of nine children and helped as an older daughter to oversee the daily activities of their large family.
Barbara was married to Larry Eavey on July 4, 1962 in Lebanon. The young couple moved to Elmhurst, Ill. from 1963-1966 before relocating back to Boone County where they raised two children, Norman and Pamela. During the last 20 years, Barb and Larry lived primarily in Yuma. The marriage lasted because of Barb and Larry's deep love and appreciation for each other, which endured for 55 years.
Frequent vacations took the family all over the United States. Barb and Larry traveled to Germany to visit their daughter and first grandchild. Barb later had the opportunity to revisit several European countries. She especially remembered fun times in France with her mother. She often recalled the beauty of Hawaii with her sisters. Larry also took her on "adventures" to the Sea of Cortez. Barb enjoyed planning the details for the couple's travel itinerary.
In addition to traveling, her interests included cooking, sewing, crocheting and reading. She devoted most of her time and energy to the roles of a nurturing grandmother, supportive mother and caring wife. Maintaining good relationships with her sisters and brothers was vitally important to her. Mrs. Eavey's homes were "always open" for family and friends. She was an excellent hostess with enough love and food for everyone who entered her home.
Mrs. Eavey is survived by her husband, Larry; sisters, Patricia (Phil) Rader, Debra (Wayne) Wells and Joyce Dremonas; and brothers, William Johnson, Robert (Annette) Johnson and Terry (Paula) Johnson.
Barbara Eavey is also survived by her son, Norman (Lori Weisner) Eavey, and grandchildren Olivia and Ethan, of Columbus, Ind.; daughter, Pamela, and Daniel Hodge of Avon and grandchildren, Gabrielle, Emily and Bethany. "Aunt Barb" will also be missed by many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Gary Johnson; and sister, Sue Bigham.
Memorial will occur at 1 p.m. on Dec. 30 at Grace Church of Lebanon, 3001 Elm Swamp Road, Lebanon, IN 46052.
