Barbara Lynn Ragsdale, 66, of Lebanon, passed away Aug. 29, 2017, at Community Hospital North in Indianapolis. She was born Feb. 28, 1951, in Lebanon, a daughter of the now late Forrest Eugene and Christina Pauline (Updike) Newman.
Raised in Lebanon and Westfield, Barbara attended Carmel High School.
She was first married to Lowell Coppess in Carmel on June 15, 1968. They divorced in 1979. She then married Albert Lowry Ragsdale on Feb. 8, 1980, in Advance. He preceded her in death on July 21, 2001.
Barbara began working for Danners 5 & 10 in Noblesville. She then went to work at Indiana Mill Manufacturing in Carmel, where she made belts and horse harnesses. Following that, she worked as a corn sorter for Harger Farms in Noblesville. Barbara's most recent job was working at Kauffman Engineering in Lebanon until 1998, when she stopped to care for her husband.
She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
Barbara was interested in Native American lore and practices, and was a member of the American Indian Council.
Survivors include her children, Dena (companion, James Stevey) Zachary and Joseph (fiancee, Melanie Cain) Coppess, all of Lafayette; stepchildren, Vicky L. (Dennis) Tuder of Whitestown and Rebbecca (Donnie) Fairfield of Lebanon; grandchildren, Ariel Coppess and Jessica Cain; brother, Forrest E. "Gene"" (Rosemary) Newman; and beloved canine companion, Wall-E.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Barbara was preceded in death by a daughter, Jennifer Lee Coppess; and a sister, Donna J. Muse.
Native American funeral services will be held at a later date. Myers Mortuary and Boone County Crematory have been entrusted with her care.
Memorials may be made in her honor to the American Indian Council.
