Benny's Story

Benny Osborne, 85, passed away Monday, April 3, 2017, at St. Vincent Regional Hospital in Anderson. He was born in Indianapolis, on April 21, 1931, the son of the now late Ben and Mary Jane Osborne.
Ben was a 1951 graduate of Thorntown High School. Following high school he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and served his country with honor during the Korean War. Ben received a Purple Heart Medal, National Defense Ribbon and a U.S. Service Ribbon.
He began his working career as a truck driver with Emge Packing Co. and continued to work there for more than 40 years.
Ben was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was an animal lover as well. Ben was a devoted companion, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great-grandfather.
His memberships included Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion Post No. 0127 and the Forty and Eight Veterans Organization.
Benny is survived by companion Linda Shaw of Anderson; children Howard (Jannie) Boyer of Anderson, Ramona (Mike) Haggstrom of Yorktown, and Angela "Sissy" (Tim) Warrum of Anderson. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; sisters Margaret (Bill) Stein of Plainfield and Mary Holt of Madison; as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Benny was preceded in death by five brother and four sisters.
Visitation will be 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, April 8, at Myers & Hunt Mortuary, 116 W. Plum St., Thorntown.
Services are planned for 1 p.m., Saturday, at the funeral home in Thorntown, with the Rev. Tim Warrum, officiating. Interment with military rites will follow services at Maple Lawn Cemetery in Thorntown,.
