Betty Jane Bowles, 92, of Colfax, passed away on Monday morning, Nov. 21, 2016, at her home. She was born on Feb. 15, 1924, in Indianapolis, a daughter of the now late William Charles Shull and Clara (Redwine) Shull Eaton.
Betty had lived in Indianapolis and Greencastle, where she attended school. She and her family then moved to Colfax in 1975.
On Sept. 30, 1942, she was married to Willis J. "Jack" Bowles in Indianapolis. He passed away in 1978.
Betty had worked as a beautician for many years, and during the 1980s she worked for the Miller's Fish Suppers in Colfax. She enjoyed frequenting the Colfax Library, where she served as a board member; and she had been president of the Colfax Senior Citizens.
She attended the Colfax Christian Church.
A loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great- grandmother, Betty enjoyed spending time with her family. She was an avid reader, and had a passion for sewing, playing cards, cooking and baking. Betty was a skilled organist.
Survivors include daughter, Linda L. Norton of Lebanon; five grandchildren, James A. Hise Jr., Christina Lind, Jason Hise, John Benefiel and Chad Bowles; and 15 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, Betty was preceded in death by sons, Eddie J. Bowles and Thomas Ray Bowles; a grandson, Greg Benefiel; seven brothers, Henry Shull, Kenneth Shull, Albert Shull, Ralph Shull, Joe Shull, Charles Shull and Robert Shull; a sister, Edna L. Mote; and a longtime companion, Lawrence T. Zartman.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 23, at Myers Mortuary, 1502 N. Lebanon St., Lebanon. Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at the mortuary. Interment will follow at Zionsville Cemetery in Zionsville.
