Events

Conley Phelps, 78 of Lebanon, IN, passed away on August 10, 2019. He was the son of the late George Phelps and Martha Kirby of Mt Vernon, KY. He was married to the love of his life, Zona Childress, for 57 years. He was the incredibly proud father to Connie Phelps (Beth D'Amato), San Rafael, CA; Robin (David) Nance, Lebanon, IN and Michael (Anna) Phelps, Avon, IN. Conley adored his seven grandchildren; Catie, Audrey, Ruby, Cooper, Gretchen, Cora, Berkeley, and his great granddaughter, Willa. Conley considered his family as one of his greatest accomplishments and enjoyed sharing stories with anyone who'd listen...nothing melted his heart more than hearing "Papaw" as often as possible.
Conley proudly served in the United States Navy, and was stationed at Quantico, VA, Camp Pendleton, CA, and Okinawa, Japan. A proud Teamster and retired over-the-road driver, his career included McLean Trucking, Overland Express and Landstar; the final years of his career were spent conducting driver safety training at Landstar Ranger. Conley was also proud to have been commissioned a Kentucky Colonel by Governor Paul E. Patton in 1998.
His Christian faith with Jesus Christ included being a long-time member and Elder at Harvestime Fellowship in Jamestown. Conley's strong faith led him to a higher purpose of serving others in his family and community.
Conley is also survived by a sister, Doris Phelps Palmer of Mason, OH. He was preceded in death by five brothers, Earl, James, Robert, Edward and Denver, as well as two sisters, Arlene and Mildred.
The family would like to sincerely thank their extended families and friends for their support during this time and requests in lieu of flowers, donations in his memory be directed to the St Vincent Hospice, 8450 North Payne Rd, Suite 100, Indianapolis, IN 46268.
Funeral Services are planned for 1:00 pm on Wednesday, August 14, 2019, at Myers Mortuary, 1502 North Lebanon Street, Lebanon, Indiana. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 11 a.m. until the time of the service and will be officiated by Pastor Art Thomas and Reverend Earnestine Brookshire. Interment with military rites will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lebanon. Online condolences: myersmortuary.com
