Mr. Dorian Kent McGinnis, 68, of Lebanon, passed away Saturday morning, Nov. 5, 2016, at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. He was born Jan. 17, 1948, in Indianapolis, a son of the now late Curtis Eugene McGinnis and Naomi Geraldine "Peg" (Miller) McGinnis Ferch.
When Kent was young, his father passed away. He was raised in Boone County by his mother and stepfather, Leo Ferch. He attended Whitestown schools and graduated from Lebanon High School in 1966.
On Oct. 26, 1968, he was married to Patty L. Montgomery in Lebanon. They later divorced.
Kent began working for Lebanon Concrete; however, he spent the last 30+ years as an electrician, working for IBEW Local #481 of Indianapolis.
He was a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He spent many hours studying the Bible with his friend, Jene Anderson. Kent enjoyed deer hunting, upland game hunting and riding horses.
He was a member of American Legion Post #410 in Whitestown.
Survivors include three children, Dawn M. Filiccia of Indianapolis, Duncan "Kip" McGinnis and wife, Mindy, of Westfield, and Cassie L. McGinnis of Lebanon; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; four sisters, Peggy L. Behr and husband, Robert, of Crawfordsville, Vanesa G. Goodwin of Whitestown, Antoinette L. "Toni" Veach of Whitestown, and Lora J. Lyons and husband, John, of Fishers; two brothers, Leo C. "Chip" Ferch Jr. of Lebanon and Tracy M. Ferch of Zionsville; two half brothers, Eugene McGinnis of Indianapolis and Jim McGinnis of Indianapolis; and several nieces and nephews
In addition to his parents, Kent was preceded in death by a half brother, Richard McGinnis.
Private family funeral services will be held Friday at Myers Mortuary, 1502 N. Lebanon St., Lebanon.
A public celebration of life will be held at 5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 11, at the American Legion Post #410, 5 Linville Ave., Whitestown.
