David's Story

Mr. David S. Richey, 85, of Indianapolis, loving husband, father and grandfather "Baba," passed away July 2, 2017.
Dave was born in Lebanon on Feb. 1, 1932, the son of the now late Marvin and Ruth (Seward) Richey.
He married Patti Haney on March 2, 1998.
Dave graduated from Lebanon High School in 1950. He then furthered his education at Butler University, where he played basketball under Tony Hinkle and was a part of the ROTC, Sigma Nu Fraternity and Butler's Men's Glee Club.
He graduated from Butler in 1954. Upon graduation, he served as an officer in the United States Air Force until 1957. Following his service, Dave attended law school at Indiana University, receiving his J.D.
In 1960, he started practicing law at Parr and Parr (Parr Richey Obremskey Frandsen Patterson Kruse, LLC, now) in Lebanon, where he worked for 48 years, retiring in 2008.
Dave was president of the Indiana Bar Association from 1991 to 1992. He also was past president of Woodstock Club in Indianapolis and Ulen Country Club in Lebanon.
Throughout his life, Dave was dedicated to community service. He was chairman of the Boone County Red Cross, and helped to organize the Lebanon Education Foundation. He volunteered at Ruth Lilly Hospice, creating the legal arm for the organization, which provided free legal advice statewide for hospice patients and their families.
Dave was a member of the Fairview Presbyterian Church, and enjoyed music, playing golf and traveling.
Survivors include his wife, Patti Richey of Indianapolis; his daughter, Robin (John) Roberts of Zionsville, and Randy (Terri) Richey of Zionsville; his stepson, John (Jennie) Haney of Knoxville, Tenn.; his sister-in-law, Andy Richey of San Angelo, Texas; and his grandchildren, Allie Roberts De Jong (Nate) of Denver, Colo., Kelsie Roberts of Indianapolis, Charlie Roberts of Chicago, Ill., David L. Richey and Anne Richey, of Zionsville, and Caroline Haney and Sarah Haney, of Knoxville; and many loving nieces and nephews. Dave was preceded in death by the mother of his children, Betty Ann Richey, passing in 2003; and his brother, Richard Alan "Dick" Richey, earlier this year.
Family and friends will gather Thursday, July 6, for visitation from 3 until 7 p.m. in the Strawmyer & Drury Mortuary, 2400 N. Lebanon St., Lebanon. Services will be held Friday, July 7, at 2 p.m., with the Rev. John Koppich officiating in the Fairview Presbyterian Church, 4609 N. Capitol Ave., Indianapolis.
