Donald J. Brandenburg, 88, of Lebanon, passed away April 4, 2017, at Witham Hospital.
Don was born on November 30, 1928, in Boone County, IN, the son of the late Harry and Muriel (Fredenburg) Brandenburg. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years Margaret (Walker) Brandenburg. They were married in Milledgeville, IN.
Don graduated from Kirklin High School in 1948, and then attended Purdue University. He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving as a Sargent in the Army Engineer Corp.
In 1964, Don formed Brandenburg Construction, specializing in commercial and residential construction. He was also a partner of Construction Consultants of Indiana, acting as construction consultant for the Lebanon Community Schools and Granville Wells School.
Don had several hobbies including antique tools, antique tractors, and horses. He and his family actively raised and trained Quarter Horses, showing them across the state.
Don was also a member of the Centenary United Methodist Church, Lebanon Masonic Lodge #9, York Rite, the Murat Shrine, The American Legion, VFW, Lebanon Elks Lodge, Boone County Antique Tractor Club, Midwest Tool Collectors, and American Quarter Horse Association.
Don is lovingly remembered by his wife Margaret Brandenburg of Lebanon; his sister Helen Jones of Sheridan; his sons Mark Brandenburg of Lebanon, David (Melinda) Brandenburg of Lebanon, and Steve Brandenburg of Pittsboro; his grandchildren Erin, Nick, Matthew, Jason, Logan (Ashley), Emily, Margaret "Maggie", and Hannah; his great-grandchild Lilly (daughter of Logan and Ashley Brandenburg); and several nieces and nephews.
Don was preceded in death by his parents Harry and Murial Brandenburg and his brothers Lawrence and Orville "Chub" Brandenburg.
Family and friends will gather Monday, April 10, 2017, for visitation from 10 a.m. until the time of services at 1 p.m. with Pastor Anthony Stone officiating in the Strawmyer & Drury Mortuary, 2400 N. Lebanon Street, Lebanon. Don will be laid to rest at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lebanon.
