Mr. Edward Popovitz, Sr., 80, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2018, at Witham Memorial Hospital in Lebanon. He was born in Newport, Ky. in Oct. 1937, a son of the late Edward Popovitz and Beaulah (Stenken) Popovitz.
He was a 1955 graduate of Newport Catholic High School. Following graduation, he attended architectural school in Cincinnati, Ohio.
In Sept. 1964, he married June (Fields) Popovitz in Newport, Ky.; she survives. Ed moved his family to Lebanon in 1972 and worked for Shumate Business Forms, retiring in 2000.
Ed loved hiking in the Smoky and Rocky Mountains. He was a Cub Master, Webelos Leader and enjoyed helping with cub scouts. He coached baseball for his sons and helped with musical equipment for Lebanon Band Boosters. Ed was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Lebanon.
Survivors include his wife, June Popovitz of Lebanon; three sons, Edward (Antonio) Popovitz, Jr., of Denver, Colo., Brian (Wendy) Popovitz of Lebanon and Tim (Gail) Popovitz of Versailles, Ky.; grandchildren, Jeremy (Katy) Popovitz of Ky., Tyler Popovitz of Ky., Matthew Popovitz of Lebanon, Timothy Popovitz of Lebanon, and Elizabeth Popovitz of Lebanon; and sister, Margy (Pete) Bandilli of Ala.
Visitation is planned for 9-11 a.m. on Monday, March 5 at St. Joseph Catholic, 319 E. South St., in Lebanon.
Funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 5, 2018, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, with Rev. Timothy Kroeger, officiating. Private family services will be held at a later date. Myers Mortuary in Lebanon has been entrusted with his arrangements.
