Ellender Fish Lee, 85, of Lebanon, passed away Nov. 6, 2016, while surrounded by family at her home. Ellen was born Oct. 10, 1931, in Baker County, Fla., a daughter of the now late Benjamin Gay Foy and Sarah Ann (Canaday) Fish.
She married Donald E. Lee in Macclenny, Fla., on June 25, 1955. He passed away on Feb. 19, 1986.
Ellen graduated from Taylor High School in Florida. She received her B.S. from Berry College in Rome, Ga., and attended Florida State University for graduate school.
Ellen taught home economics for two years in Baker County, Fla., and for two years at Pinnell High School in Boone County. She worked for 30 years at the Boone County Division of Family and Children Affairs.
Ellen was a 60-year member of the Lebanon First Baptist Church, the Psi Iota Xi Sorority of Lebanon, the Zonta Club of Lebanon, the Boone County Home Extension Club for 60 years, the Eastern Star of Whitestown, the Boone County Bluebirds, and the Lebanon American Legion Auxiliary. She was a recipient of the Kiwanis Citizen of the Year award and co-founder of the Lebanon widow's support group.
In addition to her community involvement, she was an avid sports fan, energetic grandmother, and encourager to everyone. She was a sweet spirit with a servant's heart. She accepted all and judged little. Her smile was infectious and her personality lit up a room.
