Eugene Charles Taylor, 86, passed away Monday, April 24, 2017, at his home in Lebanon. He was born in Gate City, Va., on March 13, 1931, a son the now late Robert Lee Taylor and Veney E. (Ward) Taylor.
Gene attended schools in Virginia. He then moved to Lebanon in 1954, where he has since resided.
He was married to Shirley (Baldwin) Taylor, they later divorced.
Gene had worked for eight years in construction before becoming owner of Taylor Construction, which he operated for 42 years until retiring in 1995. He also owned a number of rental properties over the years.
He was a devoted father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He enjoyed flower gardening and traveling.
Gene was a member of the Otterbein United Methodist Church in Lebanon. Survivors include companion, Grace Lowery of Lebanon; daughter, Kathy Cummings of Lebanon; four grandchildren and many great-grandchildren; and brother, Robert Junior Taylor of Gate City.
In addition to his parents, Gene was preceded in death by a son, Doug Taylor; five brothers, Brian Taylor, Ray Taylor, Ed Taylor, Ernest Taylor and James Taylor; three sisters, Gertrude Taylor, Dorothy Click and Lillian Poole; two half brothers, Carl Taylor and Henry Taylor; and two half sisters, Alice Lane and Bess Lawson. Visitation will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, April 29, at Myers Mortuary, 1502 N. Lebanon St., Lebanon. Funeral services are planned for 11 a.m. Saturday at the mortuary. Interment will follow at Browns Wonder Cemetery in Lebanon. Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
