Floyd Junior Cory


Floyd Junior Cory, 88, passed away May 21, 2019 as a result of complications of pulmonary fibrosis. His wife, Doreen "Avalon" Cory had previously passed in 2011.

He is survived by his two children, Pamela Jean Bartley (Gary) and Rick Alan Cory (Denise) and two grandchildren, Danielle Kristine Cory and Christopher Michael Bartley and siblings, Ted Cory (Erma) and Sandra Ryan. Brothers, Ed Cory, Jerry Cory, and Bill Cory predeceased him. Jerry and Bill's wives, Sarah and Pat, respectively, are living. He is also survived by nephews, Jeff Cory (Cindy) and Todd Ryan (Polly) and nieces, Denise Kercheval (Kyle), Cathy Kolanowski (David), Carol Haney, and Cyndi Cullom (Jim).

Junior was the eldest son of Floyd and Bernice Cory and attended Washington Township & Lebanon High Schools. He married Avalon in 1951. He served in the United States Army and was stationed in the Panama Canal zone. He worked at Shumate as a Printer Pressman until his retirement in 1996. He was a member of the Printers and Graphic Union Local #17.

He was active in the livestock activities of his children and grandchildren. He and his wife were avid birdwatchers. He served as a committeeman for Boone County Emergency Needs Committee Food Pantry. He was a 50 year plus member of Siloam Lodge #609 Free and Accepted Masons.

Thanks to the help of relatives, neighbors and friends, Junior was able to live independently until his final hospitalization. A Celebration of Life will be held at Dull's Tree Farm on Saturday, June 22, 2019. At 1:00 p.m., a Masonic Memorial Service will be performed. Fellowship and refreshment will continue thereafter until 4:00 p.m. All who knew Junior and Avalon are invited.
