Harold Eugene Peabody, 87, of Lebanon, went to be with the Lord on Sunday morning, Nov. 20, 2016, at Witham Memorial Hospital in Lebanon. Born in Boone County, on April 8, 1929, he was a son of the now late Charles Glenn and Mildred R. (Ek) Peabody.
Harold was raised in Boone County and graduated from Pinnell High School in 1947.
On Nov. 8, 1947, he was married to Madalyn Steelsmith in Lebanon; she survives. They had recently celebrated 69 loving years of marriage.
Harold farmed on his family farm for his entire life. In addition to farming, he worked as a sales representative for Super Cross Seed Corn. He was top in sales for many years, and won several trips. In 2010, he received the Breeders and Feeders Outstanding Agricultural Award.
He was a recent member of the Lebanon Christian Church and a previous longtime active member of the New Brunswick Church of Christ. For many years he served faithfully as a deacon, Sunday school teacher and board member.
Harold was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Not only did he love farming, but he loved games of all kinds from board games and card games to baseball and basketball. He also enjoyed spending 25 winters in Florida fishing, playing bridge and making many new friends from around the Midwest.
Survivors include wife, Madalyn Peabody of Lebanon; three children, Gary L. Peabody and wife, Brenda, of Orland Park, Ill., Lana K. Smith and husband, Gary, of Lebanon, and Dana A. Busenbarrick and husband, Jim, of Whitestown;
eight grandchildren, Lisa Parchem, Kristi Huff, Traci Saunders, Eric Smith, Evan Smith, Julie Daisley, Jacob Busenbarrick and Jared Busenbarrick; 28 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; brother, David Peabody of Dallas, Texas; two sisters, Jeannie Meenach of Lebanon and Ruth Ann Hollingsworth of Lakeland, Fla.; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Harold was preceded in death by two brothers, Glenn Robert Peabody and John Leslie Peabody; two brothers-in-law, Wendell Meenach and Jim Hollingsworth; and two grandsons, Scott Peabody and Jeff Busenbarrick.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 25, at Myers Mortuary, 1502 N. Lebanon St., Lebanon. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 26, at the mortuary. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lebanon.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Harold E. Peabody Memorial Fund set up at Home National Bank for the benefit of his grandchildren, great- grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
