Helen's Story

Helen Irene Ruse, 90, of Lebanon, passed away on Tuesday, June 13, 2017, at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis. She was born on July 14, 1926, in Boone County, a daughter of the now late Roy H. and Wanda Ann (Wynkoop) Johnson.
Helen graduated from Pinnell High School in 1944.
She was married to Ronald C. Ruse on July 12, 1946, in Whitestown; Mr. Ruse passed away on March 1, 2004.
Helen's greatest joy was being a devoted mother and homemaker. She had also spent time working for the Perry Township Election Board.
Helen was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. She enjoyed spending time with her family and loved giving hugs. In her spare time Helen liked reading, walking, crossword and jigsaw puzzles, and her weekly lunch at Pizza Hut.
Survivors include children, Karen Strueh and husband, James Riester, of Bloomfield, Linda Peetz and husband, Charles, of Lebanon, Ronda Strasser and husband, Paul, of South Chicago Heights, Ill., Susan Barrett and husband, John , of Lebanon, Mary Ann Haase and husband, Donald, of Park City, Utah, Rev. Ronald Ruse and wife, Brenda, of Truro, Nova Scotia, Carol Johnson and husband, Ronald, of Lebanon, Dr. Michael Ruse and wife, Lisa, of Conway, S.C., and Kelly Mader and husband, William, of Indianapolis; sister-in-law, Karen Johnson of Saline, Mich.; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, Helen was preceded in death by brothers, Donald Johnson, Wendell Johnson, Howard Johnson and David Johnson; sisters, Loris Cunningham, Edith Esther Jarrett, Mary Margaret Johnson, Wilma Burns and Violet Randolph; brothers-in-law, Ed Burns, John Cunningham, James Jarrett, Don Randolph and Marion Johnson; sisters-in-law, Ellen Johnson, Phyllis Johnson and Marge Johnson.
Visitation is to be held from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Monday, June 19, at Mt. Tabor Baptist Church, 7300 S. SR 267, Lebanon. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the church. Interment will follow at the Johnson Family Cemetery in Fayette.
