Hilda's Story

Hilda Marie Keyes, 88, passed away on Monday, June 5, 2017, at Signature Healthcare at Parkwood in Lebanon. She was born on May 9, 1929, in Boone County, a daughter of the now late Kenneth Harold and Elva Esther (McCoy) Denger.
She graduated from Lebanon High School in 1947.
On Oct. 4, 1947, she was married to Robert Elmer Keyes at Centenary United Methodist Church in Lebanon; Bob passed away on March 20, 2016.
A lifelong resident of the Dover community, Hilda was a devoted homemaker. She enjoyed canning and freezing food, and making porcelain dolls.
She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother.
Hilda was a member of the Dover Christian Church, Dover Double Dozen Home Economics Club and the Dover Mothers Club.
Survivors include children, William Robert "Bob" Keyes and wife, Cindy, of Thorntown, and Barbara Ohlsen of Sun Prairie, Wis.; grandchildren, Pam Cooper Bennett of Oklahoma, Jenny Cooper Sartin of Florida, Michael Anderson of Delaware, Brad Keyes of Lebanon, Mandy Keyes Boggs of Thorntown and Joshua Miller of Wisconsin; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; sister, Charlotte Beck of Chicago, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Hilda was preceded in death by a daughter, Susan Kathleen Hight; one sister, Ilena Fitzwater; one brother, Harold G. Denger; sister-in-law, Betty Denger; and brothers-in-law, Stanley Beck and James Fitzwater.
Visitation is planned for noon to 2 p.m. Friday, June 9, at Myers and Hunt Mortuary, 116 W. Plum St., Thorntown. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the mortuary in Thorntown. Interment will follow services at Maple Lawn Cemetery in Thorntown.
