Mr. James L. Stump, 84, of Lebanon, passed away Thursday, Sept. 22, 2016, at his residence. He was born May 19, 1932, in Boone County, a son of the now late Ivan L. "Tommy" Stump and Geneva M. (Burris) Stump.
James was a lifelong resident of Boone County, and a 1950 graduate of Lebanon High School. Following high school, James joined the U.S. Air Force and served during the Korean War.
On Dec. 4, 1953, he was married to Ruby Louise Byrkett in Lebanon; she survives.
James worked as a mechanic - technician for Pan Handle Eastern for 25 years. He retired in 1986.
He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great- grandfather. He enjoyed woodworking and gardening in his spare time.
James was a life member of the VFW in Seymour.
Survivors include wife, Louise Stump of Lebanon; children, Donald L. Stump and wife, Amelia, of Glendale, Ariz., Cindy L. Oats and husband, Kenny, of Thorntown and Eric L. Stump of Lebanon; sister, Shirley Tanselle of Lebanon; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and
several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his brother, Don Stump; a sister, Martha Roudebush; and three grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 26, at Myers Mortuary, 1502 N. Lebanon St., Lebanon. Private interment will be held at Maple Lawn Cemetery, Thorntown.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his honor to a charity of the donor's choice.
