Janice Mary Ann Asbury, 80, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2018 at Community North Hospital in Indianapolis. She was born in Indianapolis on Sept. 24, 1937, a daughter of the late Alvin Roy and Kathryn Ann (Zinsmeister) Colter.
Raised in Indianapolis, she had attended St. Philip Neri Grade School and was a 1955 graduate of St. Agnes Academy High School. In 1979, she moved from Indianapolis to Lebanon.
On June 7, 1958, she was married to Larry James Vaughan in Indianapolis. That marriage ended in divorce. She then married Charles Worthington Asbury on Aug. 21, 1982 in Boone County. He preceded her in death on March 3, 2004.
During her lifetime, she had worked at the Indiana School of Law Library, the Indianapolis Police Department in Payroll and was the owner of a used book store in Lebanon for nearly 20 years. She retired in 1999.
Janice was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Lebanon and a life-member of the VFW where she worked as a volunteer bookkeeper and Bingo worker. She had served as chairperson for the Family Readiness Group for the Indiana National Guard.
She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker. Janice was an avid reader and enjoyed playing Bingo. In addition, she enjoyed quilting, needlepoint, and cross stitching.
Survivors include two children, Michael Dale (Sally) Vaughan of Lebanon and Kathryn Daily of Indianapolis; step-daughter, Dawn R. Jordan of Indianapolis; two grandchildren, Gabrielle (Vaughan) Gadbury of Indianapolis and Kathryn Vaughan of Indianapolis; two step-grandchildren, Haleigh Jordan of Indianapolis and Nathan Jordan of Indianapolis; three great-grandchildren, Kaiser Gadbury, Godric Gadbury and Jackson Richardson; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Janice was preceded in death by two brothers, John Donald Colter and James Alvin Colter; and three sisters, Alvina Jean Colter, Joyce Marie Skalka and Judith Marlene Spear.
Funeral services are planned for 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 10, 2018, at Myers Mortuary, 1502 N. Lebanon St., in Lebanon. Visitation will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home in Lebanon. Interment will follow services at Washington Park East Cemetery in Indianapolis.
