Laura's Story

Laura Dell Couchman, 87, passed away peacefully at her home in Lebanon on Friday, Feb. 16, 2018. She was born in Lebanon on June 17, 1930, a daughter of the late Meveral and Alma Boone (Padgett) Thistlethwaite.
Raised in Boone County, Laura Dell attended several schools including Thompson, a one-room schoolhouse, Advance schools, and Lebanon High School where she was a graduate.
On July 24, 1948, she was married to James Edward Couchman in Converse, Ind. He preceded her in death on Feb. 4, 1975.
From 1967-1977, she worked in the cafeteria as a cook for Lebanon High School. In addition, she was a janitor and night clerk for Witham Memorial Hospital, retiring in 2002.
Laura Dell was a faithful member of Centenary United Methodist Church where she served as a Sunday school teacher and on various committees through the years, as well as, an active member of TOPS. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and homemaker. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, making crafts, and baking for her family and friends. For many years, Laura Dell made the bread for the communion table at Centenary and served as a cook at Camp Allendale in Trafalgar, Ind.
Survivors include two sons, Calvin Edward Couchman of Lebanon and Lloyd Allen (Carole) Couchman of Lebanon; four grandchildren, James Travis Couchman, Paul Ryan (Stephanie) Couchman, Staci Jo Couchman and Jennifer Lynn (Merle) Trent; and five great-grandchildren, Austin Jenkins, Irene Jenkins, Danielle Trent, Shawn Trent, Caitlyn Trent and one on the way.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Laura Dell was preceded in death by a brother, Earl Thistlethwaite and his wife, Shirley; a sister, Leah Galvin and her husband, James; and a granddaughter, Tracy Dawn Couchman.
Funeral services are planned for 10:30 a.m., Friday, Feb. 23, 2018, at Myers Mortuary, 1502 N. Lebanon St., in Lebanon, with Rev. Richard Burdett, officiating. Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 22, 2018 at the funeral home in Lebanon. Interment will follow services at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lebanon.
