Mr. Lelan "Red" Caldwell, 77, of Thorntown, passed away Friday, Feb. 3, 2017, at his residence. He was born in Elizaville on April 19, 1939, a son of the now late Earl Caldwell and Lena Marie (Roberts) Caldwell.
A lifelong resident of Boone County, Red was a 1958 graduate of Thorntown High School.
In July 1959, he was married to Virginia Daniels. She survives.
Red spent his career working for Hankins Food Market in Thorntown. After he graduated from high school he became the meat cutter, and continued working for them until his retirement in 2004.
He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. Red enjoyed fishing, reading, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Survivors include wife, Virginia Caldwell of Thorntown; children, Tim Caldwell and wife, Roberta, Tina Clanton and husband, Craig, Tom Caldwell and wife, Angie, and Tracy VanHook and husband, Jeff ; 10 grandchildren, Brandon Foxworthy, Grace Foxworthy, Austin Foxworthy, Justin Foxworthy, Holly Foxworthy, Ben Foxworthy, Cameron Clanton, Carlie Clanton, Jesse VanHook and Kylie VanHook; one great-granddaughter, Eveylne Foxworthy; sisters, Joan Moffitt and Carolyn Coffman and husband, Harry; and one niece and several nephews.
In addition to his parents, Red was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Robert Moffitt.
Private funeral services were held on Monday, Feb. 6, at Myers and Hunt Mortuary, 116 W. Plum St., Thorntown. Interment took place at Bethel Cemetery in rural Boone County.
