Mr. Lewis Edwin Dailey, 81, of Lebanon, passed away Oct. 2, 2016, at IU Arnett Hospital in Lafayette.
Lew was born on March 2, 1935, in Crothersville, a son of the now late Arthur Earl and Opal D. (Meadows) Dailey.
He graduated from Crothersville High School in 1953. He served in the Army from 1954 to 1957, and was married to Bonnie (Barkman) Dailey of Seymour on Sept. 6, 1957. They were married for 58 years, until she preceded him in death on April 27, 2016.
Lew worked at Fort Benjamin Harrison in the Communications Command Division, retiring after 35 years. He then worked for the Boone County Highway Department and the Lebanon School System until 2012.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Lebanon and was a huge supporter of the LHS Band Boosters. He was also a member of the Elks and the American Legion. He loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include his son, Chuck (Sandy) Dailey of Lebanon and daughter, Dee (Bryan) Nicley of Thorntown; sister, Fern Engle of Seymour; a brother, William Dailey of Seymour; grandchildren, Jason (Audra) Dailey of Florida, Joshua (Swati) Dailey of California and Reed and Luci Nicley of Thorntown; great-grandchildren, Olivia and Grant Dailey of Florida. Lew was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Mary (Dailey) Hazelett, who was from Greenwood.
Family and friends will gather today, Oct. 6, for visitation from 5 until 8 p.m. and Friday, Oct. 7, from 10 a.m. until time of services at noon, with Pastor David Wright officiating in the Strawmyer & Drury Mortuary, 2400 N. Lebanon St., Lebanon. Lew will be laid to rest at Browns Wonder Cemetery in Lebanon.
