Lola's Story

Lola Mary Artman Padgett, 83, died peacefully in slumber on Sept. 13, 2016, at Kindred Bridgewater in Carmel.
A longtime resident of Lebanon, she was born Jan. 2, 1933, in Berea, Ky., and her family moved to Lebanon in 1940. Lola was the last surviving child of Ernest Allen and Ethel Hill Allen McGuire, both deceased.
Also preceding her in death were siblings, Ruth Nicely, Lois Landers, Linda Sartor, Charles "Chuck" Black, Owen Black, Earnestine "Tina" Burris Earl; three sisters who died as children, Beatrice, Bonnie and Barbara; and spouses, Samuel T. Artman and Forest Mandeville Padgett.
She is survived by her sons, Samuel T. (Teresa) Artman II of Carmel and Ronald G. Artman of Mitchell; and four grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
In Lebanon Lola worked at the Indiana Glove Factory, various restaurants and Kroger for 30 years.
She loved to travel, and visited all 50 states. She was a volunteer at Witham Memorial Hospital for more than 13 years.
Lola was a member of the Walnut Street Baptist Church, which she also had attended in her youth. She attended Lebanon High School.
Visitation will be held from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 17, at Myers Mortuary, 1502 N. Lebanon St., Lebanon. A joy of life celebration will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the mortuary. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lebanon.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests charitable donations offered in Lola's memory to the American Cancer Society, the Boone County Historical Society or the Witham Health Services Volunteer Organization.
