Margaret (Peabody) Dougherty, 91, passed away Saturday morning, April 22, 2017, at Suncoast Hospice Mid Pinellas Care Center in Pinellas Park, Fla. She was born in Lebanon on Aug. 18, 1925, a daughter of the now late Charles Leslie and Wava (Dickerson) Peabody.
On April 8, 1964, Margaret was married to Barclay M. Dorset in New York City. Mr. Dorset passed away in 1970. In November 1976, she married Noble Dougherty in Pocono, Pa. Mr. Dougherty passed away in 1983.
She was a 1943 graduate of Pinnell High School, attended Ball State University for one year, and later graduated from Florida Atlantic University in 1985.
Margaret had lived in Los Angeles, Calif., from 1949 until 1960, when she moved to New York City. From there she moved to Canyon City, Colo., in 1966. Then she was back in Lebanon for a while before heading to New Jersey, where she worked at Fairleigh Dickinson University as the assistant to the director of videos and movies from 1992 to 2001. At that point she retired to Florida, where she had since resided.
Margaret was a member of Old Union Church in rural Jamestown, and the Order of the Eastern Star of Lebanon.
She was a devoted mother and grandmother, and took pride in her family. She enjoyed reading, knitting and gardening.
Survivors include a daughter, Sarah Tremaine Hinkle of Clearwater, Fla.; triplet grandchildren, Tyler, Robert and Margaret Hinkle of Clearwater; a brother, Charles Phillip Peabody of Illinois; and a sister, Mary Alice (Thomas) Henderson of Bay Village, Ohio. In addition to her parents and her husband, Margaret was preceded in death by her brothers, Horace D. Peabody, Herman R. Peabody and Ellsworth Peabody; and sisters, Della Roahrig, Mary Alice Henderson and Helen McClain.
Visitation will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday, April 28, at Myers Mortuary, 1502 N. Lebanon St., Lebanon. Funeral services are planned for 11 a.m. Friday at the mortuary. Interment will follow at Old Union Cemetery in rural Jamestown. Online condolences may be made at www.myersmortuary.com.
