Melvin Dulane "Rick" Ricketts age 89 of Cullman, Ala. died Thursday, Jan. 4, 2018.
The love of Melvin's life was his wife of sixty years, Isabelle Joan Ricketts, who preceded him in death.
Melvin loved his family and spent his life focused on them, while he enjoyed his passions of military service and aviation. He proudly served his country as a US Marine during the Korean war. In retirement he volunteered at the National Naval Aviation Museum in Pensacola, Fla. where his delight was to assist the Blue Angels every Thursday during their practice sessions. This illustrates his lifelong passion for aviation, that included building planes. Mr. Ricketts received the Wright Brothers Master Pilot Award, that is awarded for fifty years of accident free aviation. Upon moving to Cullman, he volunteered with Benedictine Sisters at Sacred Heart Monastery.
Melvin is survived by his daughter, Pamela (David) Yates; sons, Michael Wayne (Sandy) Ricketts, Duane Robert (Cindy) Ricketts, Gary Lee Ricketts and Steven Patrick (Margaret) Ricketts; grandchildren, Trent Ricketts, Erin Brandenburg, Jessica Wilder, Ashley Garrison, Matthew Brandenburg, AJ Ricketts, Margaret Brandenburg and Josh Ricketts; and seven great-grandchildren.
Memorial Mass will be 10 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2018 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
In lieu of flowers donations may by made to The Benedictine Sisters at Sacred Heart Monastery, 916 Convent Rd. Cullman, AL. 35055.
