Noel Richard Carter, 78, passed away peacefully his home in Thorntown on Saturday, Feb. 18, 2017. He was born in San Antonio, Texas, on July 27, 1938, a son of the now late Clifford Dan Carter and Elnora M. (Connell) Carter McCain.
On May 4, 1985, he was married to Cathy Ann Knowles in Indianapolis; she survives.
Raised in Texas, Noel attended San Antonio College for three years. He moved to Boone County in 1996.
Noel was a member of the United Steelworkers Union of Lafayette. He worked as an electrical journeyman for Alcoa and Ball Corporation.
Noel was very handy when it came to fixing things around his home. He enjoyed tinkering in the barn, and he loved his family dearly.
Survivors include wife, Cathy A. Carter of Thorntown; three children, Mark R. Carter and wife, Cindy, of Charlotte, Texas, Michael R. Carter and wife, Lynn, of Poteet, Texas, and Robin R. Carter of Lebanon; three grandchildren, Michael, Calvin and Tyler; three great-grandchildren, Jayden, Madelyn and Brock; brother, Therell Carter and wife, Claire, of San Antonio, Texas; and nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Noel was preceded in death by two brothers, Dan Henry and George Carter.
Visitation is planned for 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, Feb. 24, at Myers Mortuary, 1502 N. Lebanon St., Lebanon.
Cremation will be entrusted to Boone County Crematory in Lebanon.
Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
