Ms. Onhawanha Carver Deem, 94, of Lebanon, passed away Dec. 26, 2016, at Essex nursing home in Lebanon.
Onhawanha was born on Jan. 6, 1922, in Camden, N.J., the daughter of the now late John and Clara Kearst (Carver) Ludwig. She married James Pegan in 1946. He passed away in 1987.
Onhawanha served as a Navy seaman first class. She liked to garden and she enjoyed drawing castles and Native American scenes. She loved her Bible, and cats and other animals. Onhawanha was a member of the Lebanon Christian Church.
Survivors include her children, Lee (Lori) Pegan of Everson, Wash., Linda (James) Dodson of Lebanon, and Liza (Jim) Hastings of Michigan; her grandchildren, Starli Hastings, Jacqui Romano, and Tanya and Nicole Dodson; and the staff at Essex Nursing Home for the past 15 years.
Family and friends will gather Wednesday, Jan. 4, for visitation from 5 until 7 p.m., with a military service in the Strawmyer & Drury Mortuary, 2400 N. Lebanon St., Lebanon. Onhawanha will be laid to rest at Mount Etna Cemetery in Mount Etna, Ind., on Thursday, Jan. 5, at 11 a.m.
