Richard M. Walton, 85, passed away on Sunday, Aug. 27, 2017, at his home in Lebanon. He was born on April 27, 1932, in Crawfordsville, the son of the now late Burt Walton and Madge Walton Richman.
Richard spent most of his life in Boone County. He was a 1950 graduate of Lebanon High School. Following school, he served in the United States Army in the 7th Division during the Korean War.
On Sept. 21, 1952, he was married to Wilma J. Walton in Lebanon. They had celebrated 64 loving years together.
Richard retired from the Lebanon Post Office after 30 years of service. After his retirement, he volunteered with the literacy program at the Boone County Jail.
He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.
Richard liked woodworking, specializing in quilt racks, wall hangings and numerous other items. He enjoyed fishing and flower gardening in his free time, and was a member of the First Community Church in Lebanon.
Survivors include wife, Wilma J. Walton of Lebanon; children, Richard A. (Cindy) Walton of Lebanon and Judy (Jeff) Blackburn of Richmond; grandchildren, Rick (companion, Jennifer) Walton, Dixie (Dan) Lesperance, Vickie (Brandon) Marcum, Michelle Blackburn and Stacy (Jon) Thornburg; eight great-grandchildren; and cousins, Joan (John) Copeland and Janet (Bill) Mustin of Lebanon.
In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his stepfather, Kenneth Richman.
Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 30, at Myers Mortuary, 1502 N. Lebanon St., Lebanon. Funeral services are planned for 1 p.m. Wednesday at the mortuary, with Pastor Jeff Singleton officiating. Interment with military rites will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lebanon.
