Ron Lind, beloved husband, father, stepfather, partner, world traveler and avid IU enthusiast, died Monday, May 15, 2017. Ron was born in Brooklyn, Ind., on Jan 3, 1939, to Grace and Bud Lind.
He married Frances Woodruff on May 21, 1992.
Survivors include wife, Frances; children, Jeff, Christy, Chantel and Nick; stepchildren, Wilma, Charley, Bobbi, Karen and Linda; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; as well as his brother, Denny; and sister, Vicki.
Ron was a long-time CPA, starting his career in Chicago and Elkhart, and settling in Lebanon in 1974, where he had an established practice for 50 years.
Ron's accomplishments were many, beginning in 1978, with Rotary in Lebanon, where he was a past president and a Paul Harris Fellow with his wife, Frances. He was a founding member and president of economic development in 1989. In 1991, Ron was on the Boone County Foundation, was a past president, and was recruited back on community level from 2009 to present.
He had been a member of Ulen Country Club since 1974 and was treasurer of Ulen for 10 years. He served on the Witham Health Services Foundation and was president from 2000 to 2009. He was a member of the Boone County Chamber of Commerce and served as president from 2009 to 2013.
Ron belonged to St. Joseph Catholic Church, served as an usher and was finance president to the present.
Ron graduated from IU in 1961, and was a lifetime member of the Alumni Club, Varsity Club, IU Foundation and 1820's Society. He received many distinguished awards: IU President's Award in 2000; was inducted into the IU President's Circle in 2009; and was on the IU Executive Council from 2009 to 2014. He was a founding member of the Herman B Wells Alumni Chapter in Boone County in 1998, and twice a past president. He was the Golf Committee chairman from 1991 to 2014, in charge of raising money for Lebanon, Zionsville and Western Boone High Schools, for students attending IU.
His many awards from the City of Lebanon were: Key to the City; 2013 Businessman of the Year; Aaron Stuckey Philanthropy Award; and the CPA 50-Year Member from the CPA Society, in 2014.
Ron touched numerous lives as a successful businessman, community volunteer and generous philanthropist. His commitment of personal time and resources was never out of a sense of duty or obligation, but as a heartfelt expression of civic pride and development.
He was a wonderful, caring person and he will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him.
Visitation will be 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, May 22, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 319 South St., Lebanon. A funeral mass will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at the church. Interment, with military rites, will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Lebanon.
