Roy's Story

Text size

Roy Delmar Lee Jr., age 91, of Sheridan, passed away Sunday morning, Nov. 20, 2016, at the Sheridan Healthcare Center. Born on April 22, 1925, in New Maysville, Ind., he was a son of the now late Roy Delmar and Josephine (Powers) Lee.
After graduating from North Salem High School with the Class of 1943, Roy joined the United States Army. He proudly served his country during the Korean War. From 1945 to 1947, Roy was attached to the Tank Destroyer 9th Armored Division at Inchon, Yung-Dung Po, Korea. During his service in Korea, Roy would earn multiple commendations. After leaving the Army in 1947, Roy went back to work as a self-employed bricklayer. A lifelong tradesman, Roy retired from bricklaying in 1987.
Roy loved the look of a well-manicured lawn. He loved mowing his yard and keeping it looking its best. Sometimes he and Teddy Bear, his canine best friend, would just ride around the yard together on the lawn mower. After Teddy Bear passed away, yard work didn't seem quite as enjoyable anymore.
When he wasn't working in the yard, Roy (self proclaimed garage sale aficionado) and his now late wife, Paulean, loved to check out garage sales. When he would finally slow down for the day, he loved relaxing in front of the TV, watching his Colts and Pacers.
He attended the Kirklin Assembly of God.
Roy is survived by his stepdaughter, Marilyn Godby (John) of Papillion, Neb.; two stepgrandchildren, Jennifer L. (Jared) Boldt of Gretna, Neb., and Jamie L. (Andrew) DeBoer of Omaha, Neb.; three stepgreat-grandchildren, Andrew Boldt, Evan Boldt and Andrew John "AJ" DeBoer; one stepgreat-great-grandchild, Hanna Boldt; two brothers, Ralph Lee and Terry Bob Lee; three sisters, Wanda Zavada, Maxine Freeland and Marjorie Miller; and his neighbors, best friends and caregivers, Gary and Tamra Southerland of Sheridan.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Steve Lee; stepdaughter and son- in-law, Paula and D. Michael Seeger; five brothers, Rex Lee, Maurice Lee, Max Lee, Bob Lee and Jack Lee; two sisters, Joan Gochenour and Juanita Hale; and his loving wife, Paulean Conrad Nicholson Lee; she and Roy were married on April 18, 1992.
Visitation will be 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Nov. 26, at Kercheval Funeral Home, 306 E. 10th St., Sheridan. Services will be held at noon Saturday at the funeral home, with Pastor Jeremy Turner officiating. Roy will be laid to rest in Crown View Cemetery in Sheridan.
