Mrs. Shirley Carroll, 72, of Lebanon, passed away March 18, 2017, at Sun City Hospice House in Sun City, Fla.
Shirley was born on Nov. 24, 1944, in Lebanon, the daughter of the now late John and Rhea (Ramsey) Gibbs. She married Robert Carroll on Dec. 1, 1972. He survives.
Shirley worked as a teacher's assistant in the Lebanon Middle School Home Economics Department for five years, before going back to school to complete the nursing program. She then worked as a nurse at St. Clare Hospital in Crawfordsville for 13 years.
She would spend the winters in Florida with her husband, where she enjoyed the beach, drawing and painting.
Shirley was a member of the New Hope Christian Church.
Survivors include her husband, Robert Carroll of Lebanon; her children, Sheri (Michael) Basey of Lebanon, Doug (Valorie) Smith of Kentucky, John (Anita) Smith of Georgia and Stephan (Christina) Smith of Kentucky; her grandchildren, Kristen and William Basey, Dakota and Jasmine Smith, and Jacob, Nicole, Ivy and Nicholas Burse; and her brother, Jim Gibbs of Georgia. Shirley was preceded in death by her brothers, Charles and John Gibbs.
Family and friends will gather Wednesday, March 22, for visitation from 4 until 7 p.m., and services will be held Thursday, March 23, at 11 a.m., with Minister David Bourne officiating in the Strawmyer & Drury Mortuary, 2400 N. Lebanon St., Lebanon. Shirley will be laid to rest at Hopewell Cemetery in Lebanon.
