Thomasita Rose "Tomi" Johnson Tolen Russell, 85, of Lebanon, passed away unexpectedly on Aug. 26, 2016. She was born to Loretta and Ethmer Johnson on Oct. 2, 1930, in Lafayette.
Tomi was postmaster for the U.S. Post Office from 1962 until retirement in 1985. She also worked as the manager for the Plainfield BMV for nine years, retiring in 1994.
She was former president of the National Woman's Democratic Association and an active member of the Red Hat Society and NARFE.
Tomi was a world traveler and spent her winters in Florida.
She was preceded in death by her two husbands, Flavian Tolen and Hubert Russell; and son, Todd Tolen.
She is survived by children, Kurt (Jane) Tolen, Dawn Tolen, Brad Tolen, Jedd (Karen) Tolen, Jonathan (Denise) Russell, Peter (Melissa) Russell and Elizabeth Russell; her brother, Michael (June) Johnson of Oxford; and 19 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
Tomi was a devout Catholic, and a calling will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Friday, Sept. 2, at St. Susanna Catholic Church, 1210 E. Main St., Plainfield. A funeral Mass will follow at 3 p.m. Friday at the church. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery, Plainfield.
