Beryl Eugene Parks, 97, of Sheridan, passed away Monday, July 25, 2016, at Hickory Creek at Lebanon. He was born in Big Springs on Aug. 14, 1918, a son of the now late Walter Granville "Peck" and Emma (Barker) Parks.
He was married to Lorene Lane on May 30, 1940, in the Methodist parsonage in Lebanon. She preceded him in death on Jan. 19, 2009.
A lifelong resident of Boone County, Beryl graduated from Zionsville High School in 1937.
He began working at Allison Transmission, staying until his mother became ill and he quit so he could help his father on the farm. He was then called into service and served in the United States Army Infantry.
Beryl returned home to work construction. In 1951, he purchased his own farm and worked that land until his retirement in 1980.
He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed the winters in Florida, and especially enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
Beryl was a member of Christian Liberty Church in Sheridan.
Survivors include two sons, Donnell W. Parks and wife, Sharon, of Emery, S.D., and Dennis L. Parks and wife, Rita, of Naples, Fla.; one daughter, Janis K. Moore of Lebanon; eight grandchildren, Karen S. Freeman and husband, Rex, of Sheridan, Kevin L. Parks and wife, Julie, of Zionsville, Daniel A. Parks of Frankfort, Deanna Hammond and husband, Mike, of Plantation, Fla., Dean M. Parks and wife, Cadia, of Naples, James Pickard and wife, Karen, of Clarks Hill, Kathy Maddox and husband, Mark, of Cape Coral, Fla.; and Kimberly Eardley and husband, Dean, of Portland, Ore.; 13great-grandchildren, Tyler Pickard, Madison Pickard, Zachary Hammond, Matthew Hammond, Michonne Stepp and husband, Tim, Jon Malone, Kristen Parks, Caitlin Parks, Jasmyn Maddox, Hailey Maddox, Sophia Parks, Ella Parks and Charlotte Parks; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and his wife, Beryl was preceded in death by a brother, Keith Parks; and a son-in-law, Lee Rider.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 29, at Myers Mortuary, 1502 N. Lebanon St., Lebanon. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 30, at the mortuary. Interment with military rites will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lebanon.
