Mrs. Betty "Bobbi" Townsley passed away Sept. 13, 2016, at Witham Memorial Hospital.
Betty was born on Apr. 22, 1927, the daughter of the now late Robert and M. Luella (Royer) Dawkins. She was first married to E. Harris Jackson in Lafayette. He was killed in action during World War II. She then married James Townsley Jr. in West Lafayette on Sept. 17, 1949. He died Nov. 29, 1993.
Betty was a 1944 graduate of West Lafayette High School. She graduated from DeForest DeVrie Electronics School in Chicago. She then attended business college in Indianapolis, where she learned IBM KeyPunch. She retired from Commercial Filters in 1992.
Betty was a member of Beta Sigma Phi in Lafayette and Dayton, Ohio; and Trinity Lutheran Church and Women of the Elks in Lebanon. She enjoyed dancing; the history of old homes; played golf and bridge, and was active with several card clubs; and loved music, car racing and attending the General Hospital Reunion of World War II Vets.
Survivors include her son, Robert Dawkins Townsley of Brownsburg; daughter, Robin Townsley-Dulong of North Vernon; grandchildren, Jason Townsley of Eden Prairie, Minn., and Jenna Hacker of North Vernon; and great-grandchildren, Jadon Hacker, Charlotte Hacker and James Townsley.
Family and friends will gather Monday, Sept. 19, for visitation from 10 a.m. until time of services at noon in the Strawmyer & Drury Mortuary, 2400 N. Lebanon St., Lebanon. Betty will be laid to rest at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Boone County, P.O. Box 708, Lebanon, IN 46052; or to a charity of the donor's choice.
