Billie Jean (Hammons) Hammerschmidt, 80, of Lebanon, passed away Sunday, Sept. 3, 2017. Billie was born April 25, 1937, to Howard and Lucy Hammons in Clay County, Ky. She was the youngest of 11 children, who have all preceded her in death.
She moved to Indianapolis in 1955, met and married Mitchell H. Patrick (now deceased), and moved to Beech Grove and then to Lebanon in 1967.
Billie is survived by her husband of 20 years, Rick Hammerschmidt; three children, Debbie (Bruce) McIntire, Sandy (Omer) Wells and Tim (Michele) Patrick; and two stepchildren, Shane (Crystal) Hammerschmidt and Miranda (James) Grimes. She also had seven grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Determined to be a successful business owner, Billie Jean opened her own business, Happy Hair Beauty Salon in 1979, and successfully served the patrons of her community for over 25 years. She also loved to chit-chat, paint, shop and collect.
Billie Jean was a member of the DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution), Colonial Dames and the First Baptist Church in Lebanon, where she had made Jesus her Lord and Savior.
Her family is celebrating her entrance into heaven and is looking forward to seeing her again someday.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m., Friday, Sept. 8, at Myers Mortuary, 1502 N. Lebanon St., Lebanon. A memorial service will begin at 6 p.m. at the mortuary, with the Rev. David Wright officiating. She will be laid to rest in her family cemetery in London, Ky., at a later date.
