Mr. Charles L. Harper Sr., 72, of Lebanon, passed away Thursday, Sept. 8, 2016, at Witham Memorial Hospital in Lebanon. He was born Nov. 8, 1943, in Frankfort, a son of the now late John W. Harper Sr. and Louvena (Kessler) Harper.
On June 27, 1969, he was married to Flora Belle Ferris in Lebanon. Mrs. Harper recently passed away on May 2, 2016.
Charles had worked for Turner Trucking in Lebanon for many years. He then retired from Consolidated Freight. After retirement, Charles worked as a custodian for the Lebanon Community School Corporation.
He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Charles enjoyed fishing, hunting, and talking with friends on the ham radio; his handle was N9JUV "Porky."
Survivors include four sons, Charles L. Harper Jr. of Frankfort, Bruce Willhoite of Lebanon, Jim Willhoite and wife, Sherri, of Lebanon and Allen Willhoite of Lebanon; sisters-in-law, Janie Cooper and Anna Mae Harper; and 17 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, Charles was preceded in death by a daughter, Luella Harper; a granddaughter, Frannie Willhoite; a grandson, Dan Williams; brothers, John W. Harper Jr. and Don Harper; sisters, Shirley Gerald and Margaret Harper; sisters-in-law, Peggy Spencer, Clara Philbeck and Hattie Farris; and brothers-in-law, Don Farris, John Farris, Steve Spencer, John Philbeck and Eddie Cooper.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. today, Sept. 13, at Myers Mortuary, 1502 N. Lebanon St., Lebanon. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 1, at the mortuary. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery, Lebanon.
Memorials may be made in his honor to a charity of the donor's choice.
