Mr. Clarence F. "Fred" Shanklin, 76, of Lebanon, passed away Jan. 29, 2017, at Signature Healthcare at Parkwood in Lebanon.
Fred was born on May 2, 1940, in Plain City, Ohio, the son of the now late Rush L. and Verna May (Paige) Shanklin. He married Wanda L. Dale on Oct. 14, 1963, and they were married for 53 lovely years. She survives.
Fred started working on the family farm at the age of 13. He then worked as a security guard for Stewart Warner. Finally, Fred worked for the Lebanon Street Department for 32 years. He enjoyed fishing and sitting on his patio swing. Fred was fluent in sarcasm.
Survivors include his wife, Wanda of Lebanon; his daughter, Kathryn Green of Thorntown; his sister, Beverly (Jesse) Eberwein of Ormond Beach, Fla.; his brother-in-law, Bill Kersey; his granddaughter, Jennifer (Kevin) Sartin of Thorntown; his great-grandchildren, Adalyn, Liam and Keenan; and several nieces and nephews. Fred was preceded in death by his infant brother, Robert L. Shanklin; his sisters, Mary Lou (Quinton) Elrod and Shirley Kersey; his grandson, Thomas Wayne Green; and his nephew, Thom Eberwein.
Family and friends will gather Saturday, Feb. 4, for visitation from 10 a.m. until the time of services at 1 p.m., with Chaplain Joni Scott officiating in the Strawmyer & Drury Mortuary, 2400 N. Lebanon St., Lebanon. Fred will be laid to rest at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lebanon.
