Dr. Don W. Boyer, 86, of Lebanon, passed away Nov. 5, 2016, at St. Vincent Hospice in Indianapolis. Don was born on July 10, 1930, in Kirklin, a son of the now late John and Iloe (Walker) Boyer.
He married Patty "Pat" Pruett on Aug. 8, 1953. She survives.
Don graduated from Kirklin High School and received his bachelor's degree from Indiana University. He received his M.D. from McGill University in Canada in 1956.
Don served in the United States Air Force from 1956 until 1960, stationed in South Carolina. After serving in the U.S. Air Force, he did two years of residency in West Virginia. Don practiced general surgery in Lebanon from 1962 until 1994, during which he performed countless surgeries.
He had many hobbies including golf, woodworking and flying the glider that he built. He was an avid basketball fan and enjoyed supporting his grandchildren in their sport endeavors.
Don was a longtime member of the Ulen Country Club, the NRA, the fraternal order of the Elks and the Republican Party. He was also president of the Witham Hospital Board of Trustees and longtime member of the Witham Hospital Foundation.
Survivors include his wife, Pat; his son, Craig and wife, Theresa, of Lebanon, and their daughters, Katie and Maggie, and his son, Cameron and wife, Caroline, of Sheridan, and their children, Jeremy and Taylor Boyer. In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by his son, Brian, and brother, Keith (Jane) Boyer.
Family and friends will gather to celebrate Don on Sunday, Nov. 13, from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. at Strawmyer & Drury Mortuary, 2400 N. Lebanon Street, Lebanon.
Memorial contributions in his name may be made to the Witham Health Services Foundation, c/o Dr. Don Boyer Scholarship, 2705 N. Lebanon St., Suite 115, Lebanon, IN 46052. The Dr. Don Boyer Scholarship is for students who have been accepted into an accredited medical school and who attended high school in or lived in Boone County. The scholarship amount is $10,000 per year and is renewable for up to four years. You can also honor his memory by voting for anybody but Hilary Clinton.
