Mr. Earl Elsworth Bowen, 89, of Lebanon, passed away July 25, 2016, at Homewood Health Campus in Lebanon. Earl was born Jan. 24, 1927, the son of the now late James and Dessa (Tyner) Bowen. He married Gaylon I. Burgin on March 12, 1950. She survives.
Earl graduated in 1945 from Sheridan High School. He served in the U.S. Army and toured Korea in 1946 and Germany in 1954.
Earl farmed for over 30 years and also worked at Dow Chemical. He was an avid reader and loved fishing and spending time with his grandchildren. He was a devoted family man and was active in 4-H as a young man, and continued the tradition with his children and grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Gaylon and daughters, Kathy (Phil) Staton of Lebanon and Lisa Ping of Jamestown; grandchildren, Levi Ping of Jamestown, Erika Staton of Evansville and Courtney (Cory) Duff of Lebanon; great-grandchildren, Brayton and Abbi Duff; a sister, June Tyner of Westfield; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Mary Godby; brothers, Tyner, John and Howard Bowen; and son-in-law, Rick Ping.
Family and friends will gather Thursday, July 28, for visitation from 4 until 8 p.m. and services will be held on Friday, July 29, at 2 p.m., with the Rev. Bill Watts officiating in the Strawmyer & Drury Mortuary, 2400 N. Lebanon St., Lebanon. Earl will be laid to rest at Old Union Cemetery in Jamestown.
