Mr. Edwin E. Cunningham, 80, of Sebring, FL, also of Lebanon, IN, passed away April 3, 2017, at Winter Haven Hospital in Winter Haven, FL.
Ed was born on February 9, 1937, in Lebanon, the son of the late John T. and Loris (Johnson) Cunningham. He married Josephine L. Anderson on June 28, 1960. She survives.
Ed graduated from Perry Central High School, and he then attended Indiana University. He was later a graduate of Butler University. While in college, he participated in the ROTC program.
Ed was the owner and operator of the Waveland Elevator, Inc. for 29 years. After selling the Elevator company, he returned to Lebanon to join his brother Dennis in operating the Kern Kirtley and Herr for 27 years. He was also part owner of Central Indiana Organics and C & H Distributors. Ed enjoyed traveling, reading, gardening, and fishing. He was also a fan of Butler basketball and he enjoyed watching automobile racing. Ed loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was a past member of the Mt. Tabor Baptist Church and he attended the Milledgeville Christian Church.
Survivors include his wife Josephine "Jo" Cunningham; his daughters Lori (Lee) Moore, Shari (Doug) Gillison, and Ami Schimchak; his brothers John "Tom" Thomas Cunningham, Jr. and his wife Judy and Dennis G. (Patti) Cunningham; his grandchildren Alison (Moore) Breitbarth and her husband Nolan, Rachel Moore, Tyler Vest, Hailey Vest, Joel Gillison, Zachary Gillison, Caroline Gillison, Kyle Schimchak, and Nicole Schimchak; and several nieces and nephews. Ed was preceded in death by his parents John and Loris (Johnson) Cunningham, his infant granddaughter Samantha Jo Schimchak, his nephew Mark A. Cunningham, and many aunts and uncles.
Family and friends will gather Sunday, April 9, 2017 for visitation from 2 p.m. - 4 p.m. with a service to immediately follow with pastor Bruce Burns officiating in the Strawmyer & Drury Mortuary, 2400 N. Lebanon Street, Lebanon. Ed will be laid to rest at Johnson Family Cemetery near Fayette.
Memorial contributions in his name may be made to the Shiners Hospital for Children: make checks payable to the Shriners Hospital for Children Lexington and send to the Murat Temple, 510 N. New Jersey Street, Indianapolis, IN 46204. Friends and Family are invited to the Lebanon American Legion, 1020 Hendericks Drive, Lebanon, IN immediately following burial for a celebration of life.
