Franklin's Story

Franklin Delano Johnson passed away in Roseville, Calif., on Sept. 15, 2016, at the age of 83. He was born to Forest "Frosty" Johnson Sr. and Imogene "Imo" Johnson on Oct. 15, 1932, in Lebanon.
Frank joined the U.S. Air Force in 1951, and worked as a jet engine and aircraft mechanic on B-47, B-52, B-58 and KC-135 aircraft. During his career, Frank's assignments included MacDill AFB, Tampa, Fla.; Hunter AFB, Savannah, Ga.; Bunker AFB, Peru, Ind.; March AFB, Riverside, Calif.; Andersen AFB, Guam; and Kincheloe AFB, Sault Ste. Marie, Mich.
During his distinguished career, Frank was awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal and Meritorious Service Medal. He retired from the Air Force in 1972 as a SMSgt, after 21 years of service.
He went on to serve another 20 years with the U.S. Postal Service in Tampa. He was a resident of Tampa for the past 44 years, and just recently moved to Roseville.
Frank was preceded in death by Joan Johnson, his beloved wife of 50 years. He is survived by his children, David, Debra and Michael; grandchildren, Jennifer Johnson, Crystal Henderson, Courtney LeBlanc and Kaydee Johnson; and great-grandson, Douglas Henderson. He was one of eight brothers and two sisters; his two surviving brothers are Forest "Buster" Johnson Jr. and David "Dave" Johnson.
Frank will be interred at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 3, at the VA National Cemetery in Dixon, Calif., with full military honors.
