Mrs. Iva Joyce Williams-Price Carpenter, 78, of Darlington, passed away peacefully in her home on Saturday, June 17, 2017, at 11:35 p.m. She was born in Crawfordsville on Sept. 15, 1938, to Merle and Dorthea Williams. At the age of 8, she was adopted by Raymond and Ruth (Walker) Price.
She married Jack R. Carpenter in Thorntown on Oct. 27, 1956; he survives.
Iva worked alongside her husband on the farm. She also had worked at the Colfax Furniture Factory, as well as in the Montgomery County Prosecutors Office from May 1986 until October 1996.
She was a member of the Woodland Heights Christian Church and attended the Darlington Christian Church.
She attended Bowers School and was a graduate of Lebanon High School.
In her free time she enjoyed working in her vegetable and flower gardens and watching NASCAR. She loved spending winters in Okeechobee, Fla., and fishing. She also loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; playing games and cards; and going to football, baseball, basketball, softball and volleyball games and gymnastics meets that her grandchildren were involved with.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her three sons, Dennis (Kim) Carpenter, and Scott (Kristen) Carpenter, both of Darlington, and Michael (Brenda) Carpenter of Plainfield. Also surviving is her sister, Charlotte Marie Dixon of Noblesville; her brother, James Merle Williams of New Whiteland; grandchildren, Ben (Lauren), Lucas (Nikki), Elijah, Ethan, Kayla, Maggie, Ryan, Amanda, Braden (Hannah), Halle and Karsyn; great-grandchildren, Kaybrie, Adliegh, Courtlyn, Caelyn, Cohen and Malea. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her brothers, Roy Lee Williams and Ronald Keith Price.
Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday, June 22, at the Darlington Christian Church, 101 Washington St., Darlington. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 23, at the church, with Pastor Brian Holt officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenlawn Cemetery in Darlington.
