Janet Rose Martinez, 78, of Lebanon, Indiana, passed away Sunday afternoon, October 1, 2017, at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis. She was born on October 22, 1938, in Lebanon, Indiana, a daughter of the late Pleasant O. and Mildred (Chenoweth) Shanklin.
She was a 1957 graduate of Lebanon High School and attended Purdue University.
On July 22, 1967, she was married to Joseph "Joe" Martinez in Mechanicsburg, Indiana. He preceded her in death on November 9, 1999.
Janet Rose had worked for Mayflower Van Lines and American Red Ball Van Lines, both of Indianapolis.
She had attended Mechanicsburg Christian Church. Janet Rose was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was active in her children's activities and community service. In addition, she enjoyed cooking for her family and was an avid Purdue sports fan.
Survivors include her children, David A. (Leticia) Martinez and JoAnn Martinez of Lebanon; grandchildren, Andrew C. Martinez and Jessica Martinez of Lebanon and Jonathan Holt and Nicholas Holt of Indianapolis; and a niece, Stacey Wareham of Spokane, Washington.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Janet was preceded in death by a son, Danny Joe Martinez; a grandson, David A. Martinez, Jr.; a brother, John Shanklin; and two sisters, Edith Lewis and Carol E. Layman.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday, October 6, 2017 at Myers Mortuary, 1502 North Lebanon Street, Lebanon. Funeral Services are planned for 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 7, 2017, at the funeral home in Lebanon. Interment will follow services at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lebanon.
