John Ora Hovermale, 84, of Bellaire, Mich., formerly of Jamestown, passed away on Dec. 2, 2016.
John was born Oct. 15, 1932, to the now late Harry and Lucille (Woodruff) Hovermale, in Jamestown.
He spent all of his childhood days and most of his adult days in Jamestown, first graduating high school and briefly attending Indiana Business College, before serving his country proudly in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955. Upon being honorably discharged, he continued his education at the University of Indianapolis.
On May 8, 1953, he married the love of his life, Sandra Price. Together they had two sons, Doug and Gary.
John was a member of the Jamestown American Legion and Masonic Lodge.
He worked at Hovermale and Hedge International Harvester Dealership, and later became the owner of Hovermale Hardware Store. He was the co-owner of and built Tomahawk Hills Golf Course along with his family. He and Sandra retired to Bellaire in 2000.
John enjoyed boat racing, NASCAR and playing shuffleboard, but most of all spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is survived and missed by his wife, Sandra; his sons, Doug (Susan) of Monticello, and Gary Hovermale of Bellaire; his brother, Bob of Pittsboro; his grandchildren, Kala Hovermale of Evansville, Karley Hovermale of North Salem, Ben Hovermale of Bellaire, Casey (Megan) Hovermale of Noblesville, Cody (Stacy) Hovermale of Thorntown, and Kiley Wilkinson of Lebanon. Also surviving and missing him dearly are his great grandchildren, Ethan, Stella, Sophie and Ori.
The family is planning a memorial service in the spring to honor the life of John.
