Judith Diann Evans McKeen, 76, of Lebanon, passed away Friday, Feb. 17, 2017, at Witham Memorial Hospital in Lebanon, while surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Indianapolis on Feb. 2, 1941, a daughter of the now late Arthur Henry Plass and Clara (Evans) Plass Coy.
She was formerly married to Earl K. Evans, and they divorced. She then married John Hedden "Jack" McKeen on Feb. 3, 1978, in Nashville, Tenn.; he passed away on Jan. 17, 2006.
Judy was a 1959 graduate of Bainbridge High School. She attended school at the Institute of Real Estate Management, and also the University of North Dakota from 1983 to 1984, where she took a correspondence course for dietetic assistants.
Judy worked at various nursing facilities around the area including Homewood Health Campus, English Estates Healthcare, English Nursing Home and the Lebanon Nursing Home, in all serving 23 years in health care management. The Indiana Health Care Association voted her second in the Dietary Manager of the Year award, and she was elected as secretary of the Indiana Health Care Association in 1995. Prior to her career in health care, Judy managed apartment complexes from 1972 to 1981.
She was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She enjoyed crafting and sewing clothes for herself and her grandchildren.
Survivors include two daughters, Angela Hedges of Union City, N.J., and Michele "Shelly" Smith and husband, Jerry, of Lizton; three grandchildren, Chad Hedges of Lebanon, Nicholas Kurz of Danville and Amanda Gillis of Indianapolis; three great-grandchildren, Zachary Lee Kurz, Hunter Eugene Kurz and Hailey Elizabeth Kurz; sister, Carolyn Sue "Susie" Groce and husband, Ronnie, of Clarksville, Tenn.; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Jack, Judy was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Cecil Plass; four sisters, Ruth E. Stathers, Virginia L. Bernard, Dorothy Burress and Joan Clarkson; three brothers-in-law, Thomas Burress, Bill Stathers and Ed Bernard; and a sister-in-law, Lois Plass.
Visitation will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 23, at Myers Mortuary, 1502 N. Lebanon St., Lebanon. Funeral services are planned for 11 a.m. Thursday at the mortuary. Interment will follow at Lincoln Memory Gardens in Whitestown.
