Text size

Marilyn Sue Small, age 73, of Lebanon, passed away on Aug. 19, 2016, following a three-year battle with cancer. She was born on March 12, 1943, in Crawfordsville, to the now late Thomas and Ruby (Cripe) Winslow.
Marilyn graduated from Jefferson Township High School in 1961. On March 21, 1964, she married her high school sweetheart, James W. Small. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2014.
Her career as an executive secretary brought Marilyn fulfillment and lifelong friends. Prior to retirement, she worked at The Farmer's Bank in Frankfort.
Marilyn's children and grandchildren were her passion and delight. She enjoyed attending their many activities and was their biggest cheerleader, even during her cancer journey.
She was a dedicated caregiver and advocate for Jim following his accident in 1996. Marilyn was tenacious, insisting on extensive rehabilitation, and sought out medical professionals specializing in neuro-rehab. With her support and love, Jim continues to live a productive and comfortable life.
Marilyn was a servant leader who volunteered with many organizations in Boone County, and was a member of Beta Sigma Phi. She shared her talents of knitting, sewing, and noodle and candy making with her family and friends.
Marilyn was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, where she served on the church council, volunteered for vacation Bible school and many other church events.
She is survived by her husband, Jim; three children, Amy (Rick) Hammerle of Lebanon, Alan (Kim Swisher) Small of Noblesville and Alyssa (Chris) Lagoni of Kokomo; grandchildren, Jacob Small, Connor Hammerle, Jimmy Small, Anna Small, Rachel Small, Sara Hammerle, Lauren Lagoni, Kaitlyn Lagoni and Rebecca Lagoni; brother, Bill (Gay) Winslow of South Carolina; and sister, Betty (Gene) Gibbs of Florida. She was preceded in death her parents and granddaughter, Megan Hammerle.
The family will receive friends and family on Sunday, Aug. 21, from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. at Strawmyer & Drury Mortuary, 2400 N. Lebanon St., Lebanon. A service celebrating her life will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 22, at the mortuary, with the Rev. Terri Thorn officiating.
