Mary Lou's Story

Mrs. Mary Lou Brown, 88, of Lebanon, passed away Monday, Oct. 24, 2016, at Zionsville Meadows, Zionsville. She was born in Indianapolis on Dec. 29, 1927, a daughter of the now late Oliver Ossmyn Laughlin and Clara Ethel (McCord) Laughlin.
Mary Lou was a 1946 graduate of Shortridge High School.
She was married to William Dee Brown on Oct. 27, 1950, in Danville. Mr. Brown passed away on Oct. 1, 2006.
Mary Lou had worked for various department stores, including Nick Kerz, Sears and L.S. Ayres. She then worked for Farm Bureau Insurance. In 1981, Mary Lou was elected Brown Township trustee and assessor, and served two terms before retiring. While she was trustee, she purchased the land that is now the Brownsburg Fire Territory Station 132.
Mary Lou was a devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved her family, and enjoyed being a homemaker for several years. She was a well-known and accomplished pen and ink artist in central Indiana. She also was a ham radio operator.
She was a member of Eastern Star and Homemakers Club.
Survivors include two daughters, Deborah S. Richard and husband, Michael, and Rebecca L. Dalrymple and husband, Glen; four grandchildren, Darlene S. Myers and husband, Kevin, Andrew J. Richard and wife, Deven, Sarah J. Dorian and husband, Patrick, and Stuart K. Dalrymple; and great-grandchildren, Megan, Chloe, Austin, William and Ramona.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mary Lou was preceded in death by a son, William Dennis Brown; a sister, Frances Lucille Wells; and brothers, Joseph David Laughlin and Ernest Edmond Laughlin.
Private family services are to be held at Myers Mortuary, 1502 N. Lebanon St., Lebanon. Interment will follow.
