Dr. Stephen Matthews, 75, of Lebanon, passed away Thursday, Oct. 20, 2016, at Zionsville Meadows in Zionsville. He was born in Indianapolis on Jan. 15, 1941, a son of the now late William A. Matthews and June (Danford) Matthews.
Stephen was reared and educated in Indianapolis, graduating in 1959 from Manual High School. He graduated from Indiana University in 1968, with a bachelor's degree and Doctor of Optometry. He also studied at the Optometry Center in New York.
He had worked in San Francisco and Atlanta before returning to the Indianapolis area. Stephen had his own private Optometry practice in Attica for 14 years, and then in Frankfort for five years.
He was a devoted son and brother. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
Survivors include sister, Cynthia M. Gibbs and husband, Philip Gibbs, M.D., of Lebanon; niece, Kelley Gibbs-Budd; nephew, Matthew A. Gibbs; and one grandniece and two grandnephews.

Private graveside services are to be held today, Oct. 25, at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lebanon.
