Mr. William Clifford "Bill" Harness, 74, of Lebanon, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2016, at Witham Memorial Hospital in Lebanon. He was born March 18, 1942, in Indianapolis, a son of the now late Alva Clifford and Emma Belle (Burress) Harness.
Raised in the Indianapolis area, Bill had attended Paoli High School. Following school, he enlisted in the United States Navy, where he served for four years until his honorable discharge.
He was first married to Bonnie Maxwell on Jan. 14, 1964, in Lebanon. They later divorced. He then married Phyllis D. Sexton on Feb. 20, 2010, in London, Ky.; she survives.
A longtime resident of Lebanon, Bill worked at Witham Memorial Hospital as the material purchasing agent for many years.
He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who enjoyed his family. Bill was a member of the Civil Defense, American Legion and the Conservation Club, all of Lebanon. He enjoyed fishing, golfing and woodworking.
Survivors include wife, Phyllis D. Harness of Lebanon; two sons, Todd A. Harness and wife, Julie E. Douglas, of Lebanon, and Timothy J. Harness of Zionsville; daughter-in-law, Candace I. Harness of Zionsville; four grandchildren, Landon C. Birge, Corbin B. Harness, Courtney C. Harness and Kylei N. Harness; two great-grandchildren, Savannah G. Birge and Kynlee R. Bowman; adopted granddaughter, Gracie Ray Hamilton; sister, Helen Marie "Bunchie" Handlon of Lebanon; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by a brother in infancy, Buster Harness; and four sisters, May Harness, who also died in infancy, Hattie Belle McKinney, Mary Louise Sands and Ada Belle Harness.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday, Nov. 7, at Myers Mortuary, 1502 N. Lebanon St., Lebanon. Funeral services will be held at 6 p.m. Monday at the mortuary.
Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
