Mr. William Wayne Kersey, 83, passed away Monday, March 27, 2017, at Witham Memorial Hospital in Lebanon. He was born in Lebanon on April 30, 1933, a son of the now late Clyde L. and Ruth Anna (Fosnight) Kersey.
William was reared and educated in Lebanon, graduating from Lebanon High School in 1951. Following high school he enlisted in the United States Army and served his country with honor during the Korean War. He received two Purple Hearts during his tour of duty.
In Lebanon, he was married on June 18, 1955, to Shirley Shanklin; they celebrated 50 years together. Shirley passed away on Jan. 17, 2006.
William was employed at Shumate Business Forms in Lebanon for over 40 years as a rotary press operator.
He was a loving father and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
William liked wintering in Florida, going to casinos, and watching NASCAR races.
He was a member of the American Legion, VFW and Eagles Lodge, all in Lebanon, and AMVETS in Pinellas Park, Fla.
Survivors include companion, Marie Ferguson of Pinellas Park; children, Matthew W. Kersey and companion, Cathy McClintock, of Lebanon, and Scott A. Kersey of Lebanon; brother, Donald Kersey of Pinellas Park; sisters-in-law, Beverly Eberwein and husband, Jesse, of Ormond Beach, Fla., and Wanda Shanklin of Lebanon; other family members, Ryan McClintock of Indianapolis and Les Durbin of Indianapolis; and several nieces and nephews
In addition to his parents and wife, William was preceded in death by one sister, Violet Louise Caldwell; one brother, Charles Kersey; three brothers-in-law, Quinton Elrod, Fred Shanklin and Donald Caldwell; and two sisters-in-law, Marilyn Kersey and Mary Lou Elrod.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, March 31, at Myers Mortuary, 1502 N. Lebanon St., Lebanon. Funeral services are to be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 1, at the mortuary. Interment with military Rites will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lebanon.
